Massage Methods

Massage is a systematic manual application of pressure and movement to the soft tissue of the body-- the skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia (the membrane surrounding muscles and muscle groups). It is believed to encourage healing by promoting the flow of blood and lymph, relieving tension, stimulating nerves, stretching/loosening muscles and connective tissue to keep them elastic. Dozens of specialized massage techniques are in use today for the treatment of anxiety, tension, depression, insomnia, and stress, as well as back pain, headache, muscle pain, and some forms of chronic pain. Massage is also frequently used for the treatment of minor sports injuries, repetitive stress injuries, and for the enhancement of physical conditioning. Often times, a massage practitioner will utilize several massage therapy methods in a single massage depending on the client's needs. Nancy designs each and every massage to fit the individual client.

Stretching: Postural issues are the root cause of most chronic muscular/skeletal conditions. Muscles that are locked and short (hyper-tonic) are a principal factor in these conditions. You might be trying to correct your posture, but muscles with short resting lengths are impeding your efforts. When a muscle is injured, it's resting length shortens. Failure to integrate skilled stretching results in continued joint compression, re-injury and frustration. Skilled stretching techniques re-educate muscles and restores healthy resting lengths. Stretching can be scheduled as a session  or integraged into a massage that will add variety to your bodywork session to help attain a more relaxed, injury-free state.

Trigger Point Therapies: Myotherapy or Neuromuscular therapy

They can also cause muscle weakness and restricts range of motion. The goal of Trigger Point therapy is to apply sufficient pressure to the trigger points to release their chronic constriction. Following release, muscles containing and surrounding the trigger point are stretched to help prevent recurrence.

MLD is crucial to the effective functioning of the immune system. Lymph is a clear, colorless fluid that flows through the body in a system of vessels similar to those of the blood system. MLD uses light, slow, repetitive strokes specifically designed to boost the circulation of the lymphatic system, which facilitates the removal of excess water, waste, toxins and foreign substances from body tissue.
